The conductor of an orchestra must listen to the instruments and then guide them in creating the best possible performance. She is always a beat or two ahead and she works with what she has.

The first violin is the leader of the orchestra. They sit in the midst of the entire orchestra and play their part.

Mediation Is Like Photography

In this two-hour webinar you will learn strategies and approaches to upskill your mediation practice, including

  • preparation of self and the parties

  • the importance of language and metaphor

And you will have the opportunity to share problems and challenges and gain new perspectives.

We all take photographs but not all of them are good. Producing a great image requires the skills of seeing, framing, cropping, editing, lighting and sometimes just waiting for the right moment. A mediator needs exactly the same skills.

Mediators

Anyone involved in complex problem solving.

Mediation Is Like Painting

In this two-hour webinar you will learn skills and approaches which support you in inviting the best from each participant whatever the dispute. This session is about finding an effective personal style.

  • inclusion and neurodiversity
  • communication styles
  • preparing the parties to negotiate
  • self-disclosure

And you will have the opportunity to share problems and challenges and gain new perspectives.

An artist is rarely certain what the finished work will be: they learn to work with that uncertainty. Preparation, practice, skills, courage to experiment, finding suitable materials: when you pay attention to these ingredients, you invite the best possible outcome including happy accidents. The practice of mediation is very similar.

When I am painting, I have a structure and a plan which I have spent time on before I take up my brush. It is a skeleton on which to hang my artistic style. The mediation process is a structure and a plan and the skills of the mediator are what brings the image to life.

Mediation Is Like Jazz

In this two-hour webinar you will learn skills to enhance

  • engage with confidence and effectiveness when things go wrong
  • appropriate humour
  • sharing your own experiences with participants

And you will have the opportunity to share problems and challenges and gain new perspectives.

To be a great jazz musician takes a great deal of practice. Knowing the theory of music is not the same as knowing how to improvise from the foundation of well-honed skills. That is an art.

Responding in the moment is a necessary part of mediation and that comes from a foundation of exceptional interpersonal skills.

Mending What Is Broken

In this two-hour webinar, you will learn skills and approaches you can use to engage people in restoring relationships at work and at home.

This course is both an introduction to Kintsugi and an opportunity to see how the philosophy behind Kintsugi can give  structure and perspective to addressing important relationships.

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of mending broken ceramics. The Kintsugi process honours the brokenness and imperfections of an item as part of its history and transforms it into something new and stronger.

In the same way, mediation and conflict resolution skills can restore broken contracts, relationships and teams.

Mediation is the Kintsugi of human relationships for life and for work.

  • negotiating where there is no money
  • keeping the negotiation going after the end of the mediation day

And you will have the opportunity to share problems and challenges and gain new perspectives.

Negotiation is like a dance between strangers who have to learn to develop an understanding of each other to avoid tripping over themselves or stepping on each other’s toes.

Exceeded all expectations. It is day 5 and not only am I sad it is the end of the course but could have very happily continued for weeks more! Interesting, varied, interactive, inspirational. I liked the fact that the case studies were a challenge rather than too easy.
